What to include in an MTO to get a fast, accurate quote

Seven details that separate a same-day quote from a week of back-and-forth emails.

Most quote delays are not about price. They are about missing information. A supplier who has to guess will either ask questions or quote the wrong thing. Include these seven details and you will get a quote you can award.

The seven details

  1. Size and wall or schedule — NPS and schedule for pipe; OD and weight per foot for OCTG.
  2. Specification and grade — API 5L X52 PSL2, ASTM A106 Gr. B, API 5CT L80-1.
  3. Ends or connection — bevelled, plain end, threaded and coupled, BTC, premium.
  4. Pressure class and facing — Class 600 RF, Class 900 RTJ.
  5. Quantity with units — feet, joints, pieces. Say which.
  6. Delivery location and required date — the date the material must be on site, not the date you want a quote.
  7. Documentation requirements — EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2, PMI, third-party inspection, Buy America.

Send the spreadsheet, not a screenshot

An editable XLSX lets us quote in your line order, so your team can compare bids side by side. If all you have is a drawing, send it — we can build the MTO from isometrics.

Tell us what is flexible

If an alternate grade, dual-certified pipe or a different manufacturer is acceptable, say so. It often shortens lead time by weeks.
